Join American Legion Auxiliary Iowa Girls State in Giving Back

Your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of our veterans. Help us provide the care and support they deserve.

Dear Citizen of Iowa Girls State,

            An idea was presented to the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Board of collecting items to benefit the Standdowns that are held each fall for the Veterans at each facility. Not necessarily at the facility but in the city of its location.

            We are asking each participant attending the 2025 session to help with this service project, by bringing an item off the list to Girls State on Sunday, June 15^th. The items will be given to respective representatives from each VA facility that the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary supports. 

            As we were given a donation list, we decided to ask you to donate a needed item by the first letter of your last name. By doing this, it is our hope we won’t end up with too many items of the same thing and nothing of another.

Below please find the breakdown of last name letters and items requested:

A-B-C                                     Shaving cream and/or disposable razors

                        D-E                                         Men’s 3 in 1 Body wash

                        F-G                                          Women’s Body wash (any fragrance)

                        H-I                                           Mouthwash (non-alcoholic)

                        J-K-L                                       Deodorant or Chapstick

                        M-N-O                                    Women’s Shampoo 2-1

                        P-Q-R                                      Body or Hand Lotion

                        S-T-U                                      Women’s socks

                        V-W-X                                     Men’s Socks

                        Y-Z                                          Feminine products

If you want to bring more than 1 item, you may choose another one from the list. This request in not mandatory, but we are positive that any items donated will be greatly appreciated by the veterans and/or their spouse that will receive it at one of the Stand-downs.
